EDM - Wire, Ram and Sink EDM

Wire Edm

Cadence uses electrical discharge machining (EDM) to produce precision parts for surgical devices. EDM involves utilizing an electrically energized “electrode” to pass through metal - including difficult-to-machine stainless steels. EDM machines create intricate profiles and use rapid, controlled, repetitive spark discharges. EDM edges are smooth but matte and the typical surface finish is between 16 and 64 micro inches. The edges of the finished part have virtually no burrs.

The types of EDM processes we use to achieve highest level accuracy and tight tolerances are:

  • Wire EDM
  • Ram EDM or Sink / Sinker EDM

Our processes yield the following benefits to our customers:

  • Complex Geometries with Very Tight Tolerances
  • Ability to process Hardened or Unhardened Materials
  • Burr Free Results
  • Rapid Prototyping Flexibility
